210 Conibear?
« on: November 30, 2005, 07:56:48 AM »
I was reading a book on water trapping that said a good trap for mink. rats and coon was a 210 coni.

I've never heard of them is it a misprint in the book or is it just an old trap no longer being made?
total for this year so far
3 grinners
2 coyotes
4 coons and
1 skunk

 so far

210 Conibear?

No, it is not a mis-print.The 210 conibear was simply a 220 conibear with one spring removed. It was good for rats, nutria, and woodchucks. This was before the 160-2 (2 for two springs) came out from Victor. Anyone who has trapped beaver or otter and used 220's in narrow places for these bigger animals appreciates their affectiveness on muskrats.  They were great for wider runs where a rat would simply swim around a 110, or excessive fencing would discourage use of the run. The single spring made them easier to fire by the smaller animals. I've been using the regular 160 as a dual purpose trap on my lines for rats and coon for similar reasons. That way I'm set ,whether its a coon set on land, or water set for rats. The single spring 160 Duke that Bogmaster has would be great for those same situations also, and take mink better also. There maybe less avoidence with the larger opening.
