Range report
« on: October 27, 2005, 06:06:38 PM »
Made it to the range last weds. I shot my Mossberg 500 12 gauge at 50 yards.  First i shot with my special run 20 inch hastings cantilever barrel mounted with a bushnell banner 3-9x40 cantilever slug scope. I was shooting Remington buckhammer 2 3/4  1 1/4 oz slugs. 1 inch groups at 50 yards from a solid rest. Adjusted the scope to hit 2 inches high at 50 yards. Then i changed barrels to my short range setup. 20 inch smoothbore with wad wizard choke, mounted with a bushnell banner 1.75-4x32 scope on a weaver converta mount. I was shooting remington reduced recoil 1 oz foster slugs. At 50 yards i could only keep a group the size of a paper plate-hence that is my max range.  With federal vital-shok 000 buckshot this gun with the wad wizard will keep 7 out of 10 pellets in a 6 inch circle at 40 yards. Needless to say my shotgun is ready to go here in southeast MIchigan!

Just wondering if you've shoot these out at 100 yards.  I just purchased a 24" Encore 12 gauge slug barrel and that is one load I want to try.

More than likely my shots will be at 50 or so yards and will sight in 2" high at that range.

Wondering how many inches they drop at 100 yards also out of your rig.

My wife once made the mistake of telling me "all of your guns look alike"...No, I've had this gun for a long time! LOL
