New USFA ordered, how is their service?
« on: November 30, 2005, 02:29:27 AM »
Hello all, I'm new to posting anything here, although I have been reading lots of good info for quite a while in the forums.
Being a single action fan and owning many brands over the years, I have finally decided to try a USFA single action and have ordered one. Pricy, but I've been wanting one for a very long time.
I'm hoping the service dept there is OK, as we all know service is a big part of buying a product, and I have had many experiences, both good and bad, from many different companies.
I'm hoping when the gun comes in that a few basic things work out, such as, shooting to the point of aim (if it doesn't I will make it so somehow, maybe send it back to them) and hoping the timing is great. Not real worried about fit and finish and timing, USFA has a good reputaion, but I do hope the gun is close to point of impact, last two new single actions I purchased were not close enough (New Beretta Stampede and Ruger both shot left, Ruger fixed by Ruger, Beretta USA thought it was within factory specs, so I'll have to turn that barrel in a tad myself, but Beretta did adjust timing to perfection and had it back in less than two weeks)

So any comments on USFA's service would be nice, or other comments, I've read all posts in here with interest on USFA, but didn't find much on service.

Nice to meet you all...thanks for a good place to learn and trade info.

buddy AL has three of them a real nice case hardened .44 thats seen thousands of trouble free rounds and two rodeos in 44 that he uses to play cowboy these guns get abused there shot fast and hard and fanned regularly. They both got tired after only about 1000 rounds of this So he called usfa and they sent him a package of numerous replacement parts springs pawls ect to keep them going free of charge. Now you cant beat that! Most companys would have laughed him when he told them how the guns were abused.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like USFA is on top of the service game.
I do intend to use this gun often, and I expect things will eventually need tweaking as all single actions do if you use them.
I having a problem waiting for the 2 to 3 months to get this, I might have to go pick up a Rodeo in the meantime. Something about that plain matt finish is growing on me.

Thanks for the feedback

I had the firing pin changed to 1st gen on an older mfg'd (1998) OmniPotent Target revolver. Peter Rhodes said he'd charge me $50.00, which included sending the hammer assembly out to Doug Turnbull's shop for re-case-hardening. It took about 5 weeks, but they didn't charge me anything!!! Also, I had to wait 3 months for my Premium Grade SAA, but I can't say enough good things about it! It shoots to point of aim with 225gr bullets..........& a little bit high with 250's & 255's, but groups real well. Fit & finish ( case-hardened cylinder frame & hammer assy; & Dome blue the rest) are superb! You won't be sorry you bought a USFA firearm, IMHO!!! Merry Christmas, JD45

you just made my day! I ordered the Premium grade also...and I'm glad there is some hope of shooting close to point of aim...I don't mind if they shoot a wee bit high either, I'll use a heavy six-o-clock hold, and it will fun to shoot longer range for fun.

I have always thought the USFA premium guns were superb in fit anf finish, I have handled a lot of them at gun shops, but never found the barrel lengh and caliber I wanted, so I ordered what I really wanted.
The Dealer where I orderd this gun, also has a couple of older models from where USFA first got started, they have birds heads grips and looks like 3.5 inch barrels...with ejector rods. He told me when I pick mine up, he would sell me one of those early models for about 600 bucks.
Just not crazy about the birds head grip....but those short barrels are very interesting. And 600 bucks is a lot cheaper than what I ordered, but the finish on those guns also look like a Turnbull finish, complete with case colored hammers to boot.
I'm sure from everything I've read, I'll be more than happy with what I ordered.
Thanks for your comments

I have two USFA revolvers.  My first is an old Uberti revolver reworked by USFA.  Great gun, fit and finish as good as the new Colts.  This spring, I bought a Rodeo.  Had several things wrong with it that I fixed but it had  very rough chamber walls.  Sent it back and got it back fixed in two months.  Shoots very well now, just 2" left and 3" low at 25 yards with my loads but each gun will shoot differently depending on the loads and the way each person grips a revolver.
