Under The Christmas Tree???
« on: December 14, 2005, 01:15:17 PM »
OK your sitting on Santa’s knee    an he wants to know what you would like for Christmas.  What would you like Santa to bring you in a medium bore rifle? :)

Me?     I would like to have a nice Weatherby Mark V action to build a .350 Rigby on.  One using the full length Rigby case and not the original .350 Rigby.  Should be a power house .358 cartridge?  Lawdog

Dear Santa,
I hear that Ruger will do a No1 in 9.3x74R. Can you ask them to place those lovely barrels on their M77 and give me a 9.3x62 please? A Blued/Wood; and a stainless/synthetic for us less traditionally inclined little boys.
Cheers...

If I were ordering up one I think it would start with either a Remington Model 7 or 700 short action in SS. I'd add a match grade 20" barrel of slim contour and have a full Mannlicher style stock of the pepper laminated wood wrapped around it to match the one Remington uses on their Mod 7 MS. I'd have it fitted with a Sims pad and chambered to .358 Win.

On top I'd like to see a dual dove tail base set up with Burris Signature rings to hold a Leupld VX-III 1.75-6 scope I reckon. Should make a fine package that would do for all the hunting I've got left in me.

But then really so will anyone of many other combinations I already own.

I don't have any controlled round feed rifles in my limited collection.  I'd love to pick up a Ruger or Winchester long action and get it rebarreled to 6.5X55 Swede.  Partial to a laminated stock and stainless barrel/action.  As long as Santa's footing the bill, throw in a Swarovski scope!

I guess we're only allowed to pick one? That makes it tuff! I had a M77 Ruger in 7x57 with a Redfield 2 3/4 power scope. Got it back in 1970 I think, when Ruger first made them. So I'ed like to have that rifle back. Either that or some monster of a man just beat the crap out of me for ever trading it off! Looks like I might get my saggin' old butt whipped.

I ain't sittin on any guys knee  .  But I would take a rifle made by Hill Country or another top gunsmith in 280AI.  Preferably with a Sako action a McMillan stock and a 24" Lilja barrel (taken from the 1st 10 barrels off of a new reamer).  Top it with  a Zeiss scope with TDS reticle, 3.5x10x44.  Stick it in a Boyds rifle case . . . and oh by the way throw in 500 preformed brass.

If Santa trys to set me on his knee he's going to get a whuppin'!

Lady Coyote Hunter, however, graciously agreed that I should get a new rifle for Christmas.  That rifle was very nearly a NIB Ruger M77 MKII stainless/laminate in .30-06.  Instead its a used 1975 Remington BDL in .308 Winchester.  The Remington is currently at the 'smith getting the safety modification done and should ship back today or tomorrow (no Remington certified repair centers in this state) in time to go under the tree.

Look what you started Lawdog. If we all get our wish, Santa's gonna look like a terriorist in a sleigh! How's he going to get all that stuff thru security?

I'd like a pre 64 featherweight rebarreled to 280 AI with a 23" cut rifled barrel, worked over and tuned up. Top it off with a Leopold 6x42 with the CPC reticle.

Well I have the 6.5x55 and the 8x57.  The only one I'm missing is the 7x57.  It took me a while to realize the Europeans knew more about firearms than we gave them credit for.  I'd like a Sako, CZ or Tikka and I'll take either of the three.  No use in being choosy. Best wishes.

Well Santa,  I,m not really picky. How about a .358 win bolt action from any manufacturer.  By the way, if you would like to do some early deliveries next year, anytime during daylight hours the week before thanksgiving would be about perfect.
