any experience with H-Retumbo?
« on: December 06, 2005, 06:37:09 AM »
Anyone know how this powder preforms and in what cartridges?
For large caliber, etc.
Need a slow burner for large cases, like straight-walled big bores.
I have powder needed right now, but thought of trying something new, as I've never tried this Retumbo powder.
Thank's!

We use it in our factory .300 Rem. Ultra Mag loads. It is very consistant (to the tune of 50 shot SD's of 5-10), clean burning, and everyone has only positive comments on the ammunition. I have not used it on any of the big bore straight walls.

Looks like to me it must just be for small bore and small bore magnums.
Another reason why I wish they could be more specific on the powder websites about the uses for each powder.
They are always very vague when it comes to this. But stress safety all the time.
Go figure.
At least they could have more info, and individual lists of cartridges each powder is good in. Yes, they may mention some, but only very few.
Like, this powder works well in .30-06. WELL? Not telling me much here,  you know.
Well, sorry to vent, but if they stress safety, then this would be a good step toward it in my opinion.
I'm sticking to my 4831, and thats it.
Tired of changing powders.

I have used quite a bit of retumbo in the 300RUM with very good results. Groups running between .4" and 1" at 100 yds depending on bullet. It has also produced the highest velocities with 165 and 180 grain bullets. H870 beats retumbo slightly with 200 grainers.
