Is it normal to have to really snap a handi rifle hard to get the action closed? I'm just wondering I was looking over a .280 rem at the local walmart and loked what I saw I am concerned about the lock up though, It clould be I'm used to a contender and encore load action to frame lock up, even closeing a t'c softly I know its locked.  the handi I locked at just did not want to lock up when closeing softly , but when closing it sharply it was locked .  kjg

That should be fine after a good cleaning and especially so after a time or 2 at the range and shooting a fews rounds through it. It would not worry me in the least, as a matter of fact knowing how "dirty" these guns come from the factory, loaded with oil, grease, the occasional metal debris and shavings and "crud" in general I would probably choose that gun over one that closed easily when new at the store. If there is a continuing problem H&R will fix it for free and give you a free trigger job to boot if you ask for it, go for it!!!....<><.... :grin:

New ones are usually stiff, and harder to close and open.  But they are like fine wines, they get smoother with age.
