'Cheap' Re-Chambering
« on: December 08, 2005, 11:59:43 AM »
Hello, all,

i tried to put a post onto this NEF' forum, which has wound up on the Savage forum.   i have had problems with this website since it was hacked, but not like this one.......   maybe it was my mistake with how tired i've been since they shot me with that steroid!

i suggest, that for those wanting to do an Ackley-Improved chambering cheaply and properly that they work with the Savage rifle with the barrel nut that allows such simple headspacing adjustments.   the idea of the 'crush' fit and the use of gauges still applies as i tried to post on the Handi' forum.

i doubt you'll ever get the same dollar-for-dollar value out of a savage that you do out of a Handi', but it's an easy way to achieve an AI' re-chambering job Properly without barrel-setback costs like with a Remington.

FWIW,

It got moved to the Savage forum cuz it pertains to Savage rifles, not a Handi. I'll leave this one as a friendly suggestion from one of our seni...er.....senior  members.....although I don't know for sure if you're just stirrin the pot again or it's an honest idea for those interested.

Thanks

i solemnly assure you, all that Savage rifle tongue-in-cheek stuff aside, i intended to put it here (before it was moved) so that the Handi' shooters would consider an alternative that would Most Likely be a better way to achieve a Proper Ackley Improved chamber whether using rimmed or semi-rimmed or rimless cartridges.....and without going through the barrel-setback costs with a professional smith that i'd mentioned.

i believe in using a reamer at home, with a 'live' pilot, using headspace gauges, a proper Savage tool for the nut and the receiver, and carefully achieving a proper Ackley'ized chamber for this project.   then, if the headspace gauges themselves are proper, if the reamer is proper, if the technique is done properly, ad-nauseaum......it'll be a good setup for one who wants to use either standard or 'improved' ammo'.

incidentally, i enjoy your witty questions/comments on here at times.

take care,
