.204 & .243..??
« on: December 10, 2005, 02:01:30 AM »
Guys;
    I see the .204 is only available in the Handi rifle..I would really prefer the synthetic.
   I may well be interested in an Ultra, but don't see it listed..

   Don't see the .204 in a fluted barrel either..am I not reading H & R's website rightly ?

    Does that mean that I will have to buy an extra synthetic stock and forend ?

   My aim is to get a .204 and a .243 barrel. The Handi rifle shows the .204 available...but the barrel program doesn't list the .204 as being available as a barrel only..

   I guess I would have to purchase the rifle as a .204..THEN order the .243 bull barrel..

   Is that last statement the way I will have to go ?

you can do either . nef isn't very good at updating their website but you can get the 204 in the barrel program.

and the 204 is  in a fluted barrel

i own both a 204 bull and a 243 bull and both are great shooters. i like you choices.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

ironglow, I spoke with Gordon with NEF C/S this week about that very thing. The .204 fluted barrel is available as an accessory, 110 bucks plus 15 for fitting, and 10 for shipping and insurance, total 135 bucks. I asked if my synthetic forend would fit that barrel, answer is yes.   He also told me they would be closing down on Dec. 22 thru I think he said Jan. 6 for the Christmas holidays, and the turnaround time right now is 4 to 5 weeks. The .204 is available in their Ultra Varmint Fluted model also. Take care...

Ironglow, like Mitchell said, the .204 is available as rifle and barrel only in 2 persuasions, 22" bull or 24" fluted bull, the .243 is also available in the usual 22", plus 24" bull and 24" fluted bull, rifle or barrel only. :grin:

Thanks guys;
   I have had the "sneakin' suspicion" that NEF was either not updating or there was some other source of info..because I often hear the avid NEF guys speaking on this forum about things not listed..like .357 barrels etc.

      Where do you guys get this info...like the fluted barrel .204 and the .357 mag barrels, etc. ?

   Anyway...thanks guys...I guess I owe NEF customer service a call when I get right down to placing an order with a local dealer..

An email will work too, but it's nice to talk to em!! If you call em, ask for Jennifer, Gordon or Mary, they know their business best. :wink:

I gave NEF C/S a call and got that info, and if memory serves they have a toll free number now, the trouble with the memory is I can't remember what the number is and didn't write it down.  :oops:

One more question...

   Is there any problem when sighting in with the solid bull barrel as opposed to the fluted ?

   Does the solid barrel have problems with heating up during normal sighting in procedure ?
