After years of practicing with it, I finally thought I was ready to try my 45-70 on deer. My first shot was at 70 yards broadside, and I guess I will have to admit to buck fever, but when I shot, I knew I had jerked the trigger. Shot went about two feet under. Next shot, about 80 yards, I practiced squeezing the trigger a few times until I was confident, shot and missed again. Pretty disgusted about that time. Then a doe just walked out about 50 yds, I did not have time to think about it, just shot. There is no doubt about a hit from a 45-70! Broke both front legs and took out the heart in between. A friend was filming this, he got both misses on tape, but did not have time to get the camera for the kill.
