I am getting back into traditional blackpowder once again after shelving it for about 25 years. I am shooting a .45 cal TC hawken. The original literature says to use 2F powder. The Goex website also says to use 2F powder, but some people have told me that I can use 3F too. Is this ok, and will I still use the same volume? Thanks!

I have TC Hawkens also...I use Goex 3F for my .45/.50/.54cal round ball loads.

The industry rule of thumb is to simply reduce the 2F load data by 10-15% to keep the approximate same pressure.

ie: For 100grns of 2F, simply use 85-90grns of 3F.

RB, what is the benefit of using 3F over 2F? I know you will use less of it, but any other benefits? Thanks-Jack.

It's smaller granulation = faster ignition, particularly important in a Flintlock;

Also, it's smaller granulation = more complete combustion which means a lot less fouling;

I shoot 40-50 shot range sessions with 3F most weekends year round and don't have to wipe between shots...when I switched from percussions & Pyrodex to Flintlocks & Goex, and saw how fast, clean, and accurate Goex was, I rezeroed my percussions to Goex also...outstanding powder, and if ordered by the case, about $10/;lb delivered to your front porch.

Thanks RB!! I am almost out of Goex FFG and then will try the FFFG and reduce the load. Yes Sir, where can we get it for $10 a can? Also, should I still stick with FFG for my 12 gauge New Englander? I heard FFFG is not good in shotguns? Thanks-Jack.

It was $257 delivered to my door...that included everything...shipping, handling, haz-mat, etc...
