I'm thinking of asking RUGER????
« on: December 07, 2005, 06:07:46 AM »
Back in the 70's when the S&W 44 mag was hard to get and when we could get them they were on the black market for double the price and more. This was when the movie Dirty Harry was playing and everyone wanted a 44mag revolver. I sent Ruger and Colt a letter about manufacturing a revolver in 44mag.

I asked ruger to manufacture it just like the security six(similair) but make it a larger frame with no screws. Ruger got back to me and said they did have plans of manufacturing a revolver in 44mag in the near future.

I asked colt to manufacture a revolver just like the python only larger in 44mag. Colt got back to me and said they had no futre plans on manufacturing a revolver in 44mag.  At the time colt wasn't interested but the future proved them wrong at the time they finally got on board and made one too bad took them so long. :(

Needless to say I purchased two ruger redhawks in 44mag(5 1/2" & 7 1/2"barrels) when they were first available in stainless. My hats off to ruger for their responce and manufacturing the redhawk its an awesome revolver :D .

My point is i always wanted a Redhawk in 357mag and 41mag too but they don't manufacture them anymore. I was thinking of sending ruger a letter about this again and i was wondering if more are interested in purchasing them too?  I'm hoping to see if there is an interest in it and maybe they will do a short run of them again.  I would like to have the heavier frame redhawk in both 5 1/2" & 7 1/2" barrels in 357mag & 41 mag in stainless.

I have also been wondering when Ruger is going to "super size" the super redhawk and make it in 500S&W MAG too?
A model with a 10" or 12" barrel would be awesome. If they counter weighted it under the barrel like the colt python is made they wouldn't need the silly looking muzzle that the S&W 500mag has, sorry but it just doesn't appeal to me. I think having the extra barrel weight up front is the key to controlling the larger caliber they could taper the diameter of the weight towards the front yet still keep the balance in order. I'm waiting to see what Ruger manufactures in 500S&W mag.

What do you think, any opinions???

BTW; I'm a baby boomer and back then cash was tight and i had a young family to think of but i did manage to get two 44's but i missed the 357 and 41. I can't be alone?

In .357--dream on---the GP100 is all over that.

But I can see the .41 as a possibility.

Orginally the first redhawks were manufactured in 357mag too. They did have the security six in 357mag too back then.

Yeah,  they did manufacture the RH's in .41 and .357 years back.  I really don't see them re-introducing them.  The RH frame is just too large a frame for the .357 cartridge.  This model is aimed pretty much at the hunting crowd and the .357 cartidge isn't really as popular for hunting now that everyone has got to have a super sized cartridge to hunt with now (.454 or larger).  While it did make a nice flatform for the .41, it's a rather somewhat 'cult" cartridge.  Not nearly enough demand for such a model.
I'd think the best bet to see them have a run of these is to start campaigning the larger distributors for a special run.  With enough interest they'll attempt to contract Ruger to make a run for them.  Usually 1000 is normal as a starting point for a run.   Better chance that way than with Ruger directly.
These models do occasionally pop up on classifieds on forums and on GunBroker and the like.  Keep your eyes peeled and you may just be able to grab one that way.
