Rusty Traps
« on: December 11, 2005, 09:19:36 AM »
I have about three dozen traps.  Double spring, and coil spring jump traps.  I was in the lower states for a few years and the renters moved them out  of the shed, and dumped them out in the back under some trees.  When I finally found them (I thought they had throwen them away) they were covered with rust.  Does anyone know how to derust them?  About a dozen of them were new and had never been used.  They still have the price tags on them.  I just want to get the rust off so they can't be smelled, and they will work properly.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Rust removal is just the beginning, and depends on the amount of rust.
Small anounts of surface rust, can be removed with a wire brush.
Heavier amounts of rust, can be removed by soaking in a mixture of vinegar and water--I use a 50/50 mix,and soak over night.Remember, vinegar is acidic and the traps must be rinsed completely in clean water.
After traps are cleaned, you need to dye and wax them,or at least wax them,to keep them free of odor.
