Does anyone have a 20 gauge shotgun barrel for their Encore? What are your thoughts about this barrel.

Hi 257robt,

I bought the 20ga. barrel right after I purchased my Encore.  I have a couple 12ga shotguns, but I absolutely love shooting my 20ga.  I haven't seen anything yet that I could not hunt with the 20ga.  It came with three screw-in chokes, but I'll probably leave the full choke in most of the time for squirrel hunting.  Hope this helps you!

I also have a 20 ga shotgun barrel and love it!  I was surprised by how well it shouldered and pointed.  It is a great gun for informal trap shooting and is a joy to carry in the field.

I just got the 26" 20 ga. turkey barrel.  Have not had the chance to shoot it yet, still waiting for Mrs. Santa to bring the matching camo furniture    I can't wait to try it out with some Hevi-13.

I used the 20 gauge rifled barrel for one deer season and took a nice 8-point buck with a single shot.  I found the accuracy to be about 2" at 100 yards with open sights and Lightfield slugs.  The barrel had a definate preference for the Lightfields ($$) and the Brenekee were second choice.  I tried a bunch of reloads with cast sabot slugs (Lyman mould) but could just never get the kind of accuracy I wanted.

It was my lack of success in reloading cast slugs that caused me to get rid of the rifled barrel - the Lightfield ammo that shot well was just too expensive to use for practice!  During our shotgun-only deer season I now use my 209x50.  One shot seems to be plenty.  With 90 grs of Triple 7 and a 350 gr .458 bullet in a sabot I have the equilevent of the old .45-90 load - plenty of power for the biggest deer!
