.454 brass to .45 Colt?

I have plenty of .454 Casull brass but have traded the pistol. Anyone have thoughts on cutting these down to .45 Colt? I know a small pistol primer will have to be used but I do think the strong Casull case would last a lifetime shooting low/midrange loads.

Any comments welcome, rick

I would think that .454 trimmed to Colt length would be lacking some case capacity, due to having a beefed up case head to handle the higher pressure of the Casull. I would sure test one for capacity before cutting them all. It might be better to clean it up, and take it to a swap meet or gun show, and trade it for .45 Colt brass, or any other kind you can use.

You can trim some brass down with no problem.  Other brass may be straight wall on the outside with a slight taper on inside.  As you trim it down the thickness starts to show.  The brass may be too thick to seat a bullet and still chamber without doing some "neck turning".

It would probably be lots faster and easier to go to local gun store or gun show and trade for 45 colt.
