insurmountable Handi problem!!!...:)
« on: December 15, 2005, 05:09:42 AM »
Hi guys, over the last 2 days I have been getting very happy and thankful. It seems Christmas was turning out to be a very nice one for me. I got out of court yesterday after addressing the judge on a disposition and restitution hearing on a series of B&E's in my town last summer. My truck was among other sites broken into and among other items I was out a couple of gift certificates for a total loss of appx $425.00. At the court and after I made my presentation to the judge I was pleased to hear the judge order FULL restitution!!!
That coupled with the fact that some of our great members were selling receivers here (Thanks lik2hunt and Tallyho!!!) and thanks to a buttstock swap, new BC for new TDC (Thanks Daniel Laws!!), I am one receiver short of mounting all my barrels :-D  :-D . Now a fly has appeared in the ointment   . Perhaps it is just a part of our affliction with these fine little guns but I have determined that I NEED a standard contour .223 barrel for coyote hunting!!! That means I now need 2 receivers and a barrel!!! I was SOOO close to being "Handi Happy". What's up with this?" Can I ever fill my needs for these guns? :?

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!....<><....

Sounds like you're indeed having a wonderful start to the Holiday season!! Having a mismatch in frames and barrels is a terrible disfunction, but a great Handiholic like yourself, MSP, should be able to handle it and stay the course as long as need be!! We salute you for your stamina and fortitude!! :D  At least you haven't been temped by the dark side like our friend RV.... :-D  :-D  :-D

Dark side you say?

I've been a card carrying member of the H&R/NEF firearms owners since 1980! I own 7 and I have also corrupted the minds of several others who are now part of the forever club of Nef-tards. (Lord help us all)

The problem is there are so many calibers that intrigue me that NEF doesn't offer, I get tempted!
Quite frankly, I think I need an intervention performed on my behalf. every time I drive near a gun store I get sucked in like a Fat man at a dessert buffet!
no x now!

As a lawyer (AND a handi lover), I will advise you not to rely upon a judge ORDERING restitution to buy handi barrels with.  Believe it when you actually GET IT.

QuickDToo, I forgot....how did you make your Handi into .338-06?  And has anyone heard this hubbub about the .338-08 as being offered as factory ammo?

I had a .25-06 Ultra rebored/rechambered to .338-06 by Wayne York of Oregunsmithing, Mac had one done too. Cost is ~$300...

The Federal .338 or more commonly known as the .338-08 will be offered as a factory load, chambered in Sako rifles to start with....

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!....<><....

I thought I was good to go as well; it seems Sportsman's Warehouse here in Phoenix keeps getting the "little" 45-70 Handi, and it keeps calling my name. First it was the synthetic stock, which I thought was a little light, and thankfully someone else bought it. Then they got the plain wood model, and I was sooo tempted, but it finally sold, and I was safe for quite a while; they didn't get any more in. So today my friend has the bug to get the BC, and guess what's in the store? Another 22" 45-70!! And it looks and feels better than the other two!! I guess third time's the charm, right? And it'll be my third Handi if I go back in the store...

Oh well...MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! :D
Life was so much simpler when I thought I knew everything...

Go for it AZ223, my 22" 45-70 is one of my most "fun" guns. Easy to reload for and capable of taking anything you desire to hunt with the right loads and bullet. You will certainly not be sorry!!!! ....<><....

P.S. - hope this helps... :-D  :-D  :-D
