Newbie Question
« on: December 15, 2005, 02:36:22 PM »
I recently came across an ultrahunter 280. Did some research on the gun and found this site.  Want to know how much to pay and/or how much it is worth?  It has a Tasco 3X9X50 scope.  They are asking $249 for it.  Does this sound reasonable?  Please advise.

Welcome aboard!! :D  The .280 Ultra is no longer offered, so I can't give you a new price on it, the .280 Handi with plain wood stock sells new for $200 at Walmart, RMEF limited edition .280 Ultras were recently sold in the NEF Classifieds for $275 if that helps any. You can figure out what the rings and scope are worth, if the Tasco is china built before 2002, I wouldn't give anything for it.

Then again if it's an early Japan Tasco it's a FINE scope, equal to almost any on the market today. (and this from someone who does not really like Tasco's, but owns a couple of "Japan" models, through choice by the way!!!)  ...<><....

Second the pre 2002 tasco. I have one that went out of focus.Never dropped or abused.Matter of fact it is on my 10/22 that hasnt had 500 rounds through it.Called bushnell (who bought out tasco) they said they would not honor the
"lifetime warranty" if the scope was made before 2002. They did tell me I could send it to a repair shop to have it looked at. They want 23 bucks up front to just look at it.I only paid 50 bucks brand new. The other option they gave me  was to sell me a scope for "half of the RETAIL price " plus ten bucks shipping, which came to 46.95$. I can get the same scope from cabelas for 44.95$ I am not real happy with them right now. I shall send them an email, and maybe they will help me out.( a guy can wish right?)

BTW, sorry for the thread highjack, just thought the tasco info could be usefull to all.
