I went browsing the gun sites today looking for a to me from me present and i can't deceide or find anything worth getting.

I was thinking of a mosin from AIM but i have a mosin.

Or an 8mm mauser from Century Arms but i have an 8mm mauser.

Or a Swiss K31 7,5mm which i don't have one yet? There are still some good ones around yet.

Any ideas?

Get a K31 you will not regret it! I am sure there are some still around.

If you reload get the K31. The barrels are always in great shape, but the wood can be rough.

Do not even have to reload Wolf and Privi both make ammo for it.
( Same ammo different brand name of the boxes) But good ammo either way.

Can't go wrong with a Mauser, but since you don't have a Swiss, get one.

I'm very impressed with the K-31 as a shooter. The #4 Enfield are also good buys.

I got a mosin, Czech VZ-24, Ish. Mk4, and a K-31 from AIM. The k-31 is the most accurate and the but I like the VZ-24 because I haven't got used to the straight pull bolt yet.

Aim Surplus has three i like right now the Russian laminated stock 91/30 mosin $109, the Swiss k31 $99 and the Britt Enfield Ishapore 303 No1 Mk3 $79. And i know when in doubt buy all three right? It would fill three gaps nicely. There's still a few good buys left out there right now for us.

I'm filled with sadness that this year I can't buy me any Chrissie presents, at least as far complete firearms go.
Made a promise to the better half.
A nice stock or barrel would be nice though.

I may have to wait till after christmas because i'm not sure yet. There's a few gun shows comming up soon too.

Zeke your right I was eyeing those yugo sks's too. I think the supply will be running out soon too.

The K31 will shoot rings around any SKS made! Or most any other milsurp for that matter!

As far other mil-surps, it may have some real competition against a good M96 6.5x55 or a decent Canadian Ross.

Very True out of all my milsurps what I still own is a 96 Swede made into a scout rifle and my K31 and a old Spanish Mauser that I put together from parts so I am partial to it. I kept the Swede and the K31 because they flat out perform and shoot. Something I could not get my 3 Turks I owned or several mosins to do.

OK, OK, OK I ordered a SWISS K31 in excellent condition. I will see what all the swiss hype is all about.

Ok what kind of groups can i expect to shoot with the K31?

I have heard the Swiss 7,5mm is as good as the swede 6,5mm but the finnish M39 mosin 7,62x54 is a tad better in accuracy but they do put all three as being tops. But you will get no arguement from me but i'll check them out first.

First i would laugh when i seen an sks sniper but....
The problem with sks's with accuracy is the ammo. I said this before on other sites too about using norinco ammo in the chinese sks's and a few others have the same experience too so i'm not alone. Someone always asks about accuracy with an sks and some are shooting between 3" to 5" groups. Its really the ammo because with chinese norinco ammo most chinese sks's are shooting 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds. (benchrested) And my scoped sks 20" barrel will shoot under 1" groups @ 100yds. Handheld with no scope I can ping small rocks on the berm at 100yds. the bullet is going near where i aim at. I think overall its the ammo that dictates the guns accuracy.

Another problem with sks's is we always went blasting away with them and never settled down to see how good they could shoot. If i peppered a target at 100yds i did good considering the chinese rifle but i was wrong because i never gave it a chance and benchrested it till recently.

I'm hoping with the ban lifted on the chinese imports we see norinco ammo soon too.

The little Swiss K31 arrived today and what a looker that samco sent me she sure is purdy. I ordered it in excellent condition for $139. The gun is more like excellent++ condition. Great bore and what a trigger too I can wait to light her off. There are still some great swiss rifles left out there yet.

You will love it after you shoot it and your right about the triggers they are about the best out there for a milsurp. Go to this site for Swiss info it will give you some insight on the gun and what to expect for groups ect plus good reloading info.

Don't forget the inexpensive Turkish Mauser as a stocking stuffer. Underneath all the cosmo and grime are nice looking guns. Mine are also good shooters. My 03-38 will outshoot my K31s.

I really find that hard to believe! I have had 3 turk mausers and one was a 03/38 and one had a excellent bore and headspaced perfect and out of the 3 I had none shot anything like my Swede Mauser or my K31. Needless to say I still have the K31 and my Swede but all three Turks are out the door and so were my Mosins. I trimmed down to what shoots well and what did not.

When you get a Swiss K31, you should always look under the buttplate. On about half of them you'll find a little paper card with a guys name hometown, birth year and military unit. This would be the fellow who was first issued the rifle. I did alot of research online, sent out a couple of letters, and now have a letter from the fellow who originally was issued mine. Neat stuff.

jh45gun, my 03/38 has a .329 bore. I use the expander from the 8x56R Hungarian in the 8mm die as well as a 205 grain .329 cast bullet. The bullet is long and able to engrave in the rifling when chambered. For a gun I thought would be an expensive tomato stake it turned out to be a fantastic shooter. My other Turk is a 38 and I haven't changed the sights to mojos on it so I can't tell how well it will shoot, but it shows promise. I also need to try other bullets in my K31, so far I'm using the CE Harris bullet from Lee in it. A different bullet in the K31 may make it a better shooter than the 03/38, but I doubt it.

That explains a lot. as I would bet that your gun shooting factory ammo would not begin to shoot as you say. Custom fitting the bullet to the gun makes a lot of sense and finding the right cast bullet as well plus the right powder combination. I have shot cast in my K31 and it shot good but I know it could be better. I need to size it as it comes out of the mould on the large size and I have not bought a sizer yet. Got to slug the bore and see what it is but I would bet I will have to get a 309 sizer for it as most of these are on the tight size. I have heard that the 7.5 really is a .307 but folks use the .308 bullet in it. I have heard arguements back and forth on this so who knows I do know that they are excellent shooters. I also know with my 6.5 Swede that is seems to shoot like a lazer no matter what load you use what a sweet gun. I have not shot any jacketed in my K31 yet just some cast loads. I will have to buy some Jacketed bullets to see how it shoots but I will probably go back to cast as you can shoot them forever and not wear out a barrel. I have heard too many stories on the 6.5 being fussy with cast loads so I will stick with jacketed for that. Now that you explained it I under stand how you got your accuracy out of that turk. I shot milsurp out of mine and a Lee 323 cast and just did not get the accuracy I wanted. I maybe should have went with a over size bullet as you did. You got lucky as some guns are inbetween then it is a bugger to find a bullet to fit. Congrats on finding a winning combination.

I believe Graf's in partnership with Hornady are about to do a run of 8x56R which will be loaded with Hornady's .330 cal 205gn Spitzer.
I don't know what sort of ballistics it has but it certainly represents an opportunity for people to try out their mil-surps with some really good ammo.
At $21 a pack of 20 it's not for plinking but at least it doesn't cost an arm & a leg like Norma, Lapua or RWS.

A mate was going to buy a Austrian Mod. 1895/30 carbine as his first centrefire but Grafs won't even send brass to us here in the Antipodes so he ended up buying a M96 6.5x55 sporter instead.

Thats why i don't shoot my 338win.mag too much. I purchased a few boxes of ammo back in the mid 90's when it was around $20 a box and now its over $30 for 20. The prices of ammo is getting silly isn't it? I try to use the Sellier & Bellot, FNM or Wolf thats under $10 a box thats my limit now. I try to shoot with the cheaper guns to feed for plinking to satisfy my need to shoot.(7,62x39, 8mm) For the M95 8x56 there is some nazi ammo still around for it I think SOG has it. We are getting ammo deals right now with the cheaper manufacturers yet the other ammo manufacturers are still going higher on their prices? I have no clue how some guys do it were talking spending $200 for a day at the range? It costs me $15 for a whole day of range time and just a few bucks for ammo. One day with 4 of us shooting it cost me around $30total and this range cost us $5 each I paid for all my family members. (4) The cheap 8mm sure was flying!!!!!

My dad worked for remington arms as a repair machinest for many years till they moved down south. He would repiar the bullet manufacturing machines and these machines pop out bullets like popcorn so where's the high cost actually come from? Its not each operator with a hand reloading press? It seems the end consumer always gets screwed. When i was building machines I made a few for Gunite which is Kelsy hayes brake division. This machine popped out brake drums for trailer trucks like popcorn one after the other fully automated. The company rep told me running the 750k machine for 24/7 in three months its paid for and the life of the machines is 30 years. So again the end consumer is paying and someone is making big profits??? Think about it we go fully automated with very high production and the price goes higher?

Funny story;
Another point do you remember the TUCKER car story where the big three screwed the little guy out of business by cutting his supply line? Well its happening right now to the big three with japan screwing them out of sales right now. Its the Tucker curse hitting the american car industry and the american car industry can't do squat about it and its costing them in the millions of dollars lost to japanese sales. What comes around goes around?
