beaver in 1 1/2s.
« on: December 01, 2005, 04:39:34 AM »
the other day while out scouting the lake i trap i found a beaver bank den.the biggest traps i have are #3 victors but i set for them anyway i set for front foot catch. when i went back the next day to check they were both snaped and at the end of the drowners but no beaver.so i decided to pull the traps and wait till i got some bigger ones.so i went back on the bank and made a couple dirthole sets for fox and coon about ten ft. from the water.used fishoil in the hole and lenons all call on a limb about two and a half ft up. went to check this morning and had the beaver by one toe on the back foot in a 1 1/2 stock duke trap.they sure are mean .i havent weighed him yet (got scales coming) but i guess between 40 and 50 lbs. now this is in a trap i set for coon i would not intentionaly set 1 1/2s for them .also this was my first one ever.

haa congrats to  the beaver catcing brothehood. alot of guys first beavers have come in 1 1/2's and #11's. as tom said 330's work work real well for catcing beaver in about every type set up ya run into. iam a dye hard or just to hard headed i still prefer the big  CDR 7.5. 330's seeing alot more action those sence seeing toms demo's.  RayA

Fish,an otter at the bottom of a slidewire, looks just like one ina 330.
I used to pass up beaver sets where there was otter sign.If I did that now,I would never set a trap.
