Barrel Breech Gap
« on: December 27, 2005, 12:40:34 PM »
I just got a 375 JDJ barrel (Thompson Center), and when I put in on my Encore frame, there is a gap of .006" Lock up is absolutely postively tight. The same gap exists with my 209 x 50 barrel Lock up is tight on it as well, and the barrel shoots like a house afire. It will stack Lee's 429-310-RF in Knight sabots pushed with 110 grians of Pyrodex on top of each other as long as I care to shoot, so the gap doesn't seem to resent any particular problem near as I can tell, just curious if it is within normal parameters of what you guys have seen.

How about another mold deal, this time a copy of the 265/280 gr. beartooth or the Lee 310 gr. only sized .433/.434" for us guys with the Handi barrels with a .432" bore. For folks like you with the Contenders all you have to do is size 'em .430" using a Lee sizing kit. I nominate you honcho Jeff. Do I have a second? 8)

I'll be trying the rifle out tomorow or Friday afternoon, got ten rounds loaded up, depends on the weather, I'll let ya know.....

And to think I almost sent that mold to you as I'd had no luck with it from my Handi

308, Doesn't Lee offer the 310 as a 6 banger? Seems to me at this point in the game that casting the bullet from softer alloy that would more readily bump up holds the possibility of making it shoot in those oversized barrels. What do ay think? PM me on it
