HELP WITH 22 K HORNET EQUIPMENT
« on: December 18, 2005, 03:47:29 PM »
I have a T/C 22 hornet 21" barrel that I've had for 10+ years and tried everything to get a GOOD load, I was ready to give up and decided to try LIL-GUN and SP primers what a difference that made!! Over the years I have collected numerous Hornet dies in my attempts to produce quality reloads for this cartridge ( it is definitely the most fragile that I have reloaded, I discovered lots of ways to destroy brass without even trying)
I finally settled on the following equipment LEE collet die for neck resizing,
Forester Bench Rest seat die, Lee crimp die. As all "GUN TINKER'S" can understand I'm ready to move on and want to try a 22 K-Hornet for improved case life primarily. Now the questions 1) can I have my chosen equipment modified for this cartridge, if so what mods are needed 2) Ir replacement equipment is needed please advise your recommendations as my search has shown that LEE and FORESTER do not make equipment for this cartridge. Thank you all in advance!!

HELP WITH 22 K HORNET EQUIPMENT

We use a Redding set here for the K-Hornet and it wroks great. I would get either set and add the missing die (i.e. FL set + NO die or Vice Versa)

The K-hornet is much less fragile in both loads as well as brass. NO size as much as you can to keep from headspacing on the rim and you'll quickly get rid of all your regular hornet equipment. One caution, DO NOT have a regular hornet chamber reamed out unless you have  the barrel shortened from the breech.  In most cases you will be disappointed if you do.
