Spurs or is it Spurrs ?
« on: March 07, 2003, 03:16:46 PM »
Heyya Ya'll

 :D  :D

No matter how it is spelled, I have a question.  There is the part of the spurr that fits around the back of the boot, above the heel, kinda a U shape.  Then there is an arm, or extension that comes off the center of the U, then there is the rawl (?) or wheel looking thing that spins.  Between the U and the rawl, on the arm, there is an extension off the arm at a right angle.  It looks like it would jab the horse in the side for that attention gettin giddyup thing.  Does the spurr go on the boot with this thing stickin up, or down.

I know it is a dumb question...and no, I do not have any horses.  I just want to put em on the right way, then I will take em right off, I promise, and I will never wear em to a SASS match (except for tomorrow, and then maybe Sunday if I don't trip and break my leg on the dang things). :-)  :-)

If you have ever talked to NO CATTLE on the board, and you know why he choose or got  his alias you would understand why I might soon be callin myself "NO HORSE".....   8)

The Parts of the Spur are as follows

U shaped thingy.......BAND
Straight part the Rowels hang off of......Shank
Rawl.........Rowel
That little part that sticks up is the Chap gard it is supposed to keep your pant leg or chaps from getting caught in the rowels and it goes up.

Are spurs legal in California? I figure PETA would have had them banned by now. I guess there are too many horsemen, some very fine ones too, in CA to let that happen.

California has a new name fer them Spurs! They don't wanna upset the "PC" Types, so they renamed em to "EQUINE TURBOCHARGERS"!!!

No No No!!! You have it all wrong.  In order to bail out the state of Californias deficiet of 35 billion dollars the Govenor, Gray Davis is pushing for a tax on spurs.  Each spur will be taxed seperately as opposed to pairs of spurs, so that if there are any one legged riders out there they cannot avoid paying the tax.  (Those democrats think of everything.)  Additionally, the Govenors board will establish a sliding scale of spur taxation:  the more fancy the spur, the larger the tax, The larger the rowel the larger the tax, and finally an additional tax on each spur strap.  Finally for those citizens of california who do desire not to pay the new spur tax, a program will be established.  These folks can turn there spurs in to any law enforcement agency in the state, and for there efforts will receive a gold leafed certificate of appreciation from the govenor.

And now for a true consideration that I read in the paper last week.  The state is also thinking of effecting a 1/4 cent tax on every disposable diaper sold in california. (I think this is a crappy thing for them to do) :)  :)  :)   They claim that the landfills (the dump) are finding the diapers to be unfriendly in the enviromental sense.  The same article said that along with the diaper tax they were considering a 10 cent per bullet tax on firearms ammunition.  I gotta bang outta that one!   :x  :x

I swear those two things are true!  What a bunch of ridiculous idiots!
Now if I could just get the wife to agree to us moving.  Arizona, Nevada, Montana, New Mexico, .....yeah, like thats gonna happen.

A luxury spur tax. How about that. So if you own Garcia's are you exempt if your last name is Garcia and you are illegal? Are the movie stars protesting the use of spurs anyway? I wouldn't want a movie star mad at you. They might throw some brie at you and you couldn't shoot back. You'd have to fling dirty diapers at them.

I had heard about both of the real taxes. If not for stupid proposals what would politicians do all day?

Arizona is not a bad place to live, even Pheonix isn't too bad except during snowbird migration season.
