Theft Prevention
« on: December 21, 2005, 03:58:41 AM »
About a year ago, I had a Polaris 600 stolen from a small fenced enclosure in my backyard.  Thank goodness I had insurance on it, but I was still out almost $1300.  I bought a new on in January, but this time I bought a security chain and lock, and anchored it to the concrete floor of the carport.  I also ran a Kryptonite cable lock through the driveshaft and around the frame to prevent it from being rolled too far.  Last night, someone tried to steal it again, but only got it as far as the chain. I dont think the idiot(s) even realized the drive shaft was cabled.  I reported it to the Sheriffs department, and they sent out a deputy.  I knew there wasnt much they could do, and he gave me the standard response "we will increase patrols in the area", but I did want them to know.  I know there are others out there who cant lock them in sheds or garages, so what do they do?  What else can I do to prevent it?  Would an alarm help?  Do you think motion detector lights would help?  I am sure they will try again, but I want to make it as difficult as I can for them to get it.  Thanks!
