Throwing down the glove!
« on: December 14, 2005, 03:17:49 PM »
Spring approaches and I feel froggy. If any y'all get down my way, East TN, I would love to throw down the glove and put my panfish catching skills to the test. Give us a dozen night crawlers each and lets find out just who can land the most panfish. Any local water, or either of my two ponds and "Lets get it on and have fun!" I love to fish and I think I just might be pretty good at. Bragging is not my style so don't take this wrong, I just want to fish. Besides this forum subject didn't have any current topics. Dad always said I could smell fish in the water. When I was 12 dad left me at a hole with a dozen crawlers so he could go upstream and look for bass, I had 94 12 inch catfish when he got back, not much meat but what fun. dang, I like to fish the river for shad just for the fight. pony up.

Darn too bad you are on the wrong side of the Rockies.  My old buddy Mike shocked us one day while out deer huniting in the High Desert.  It was the heat of the day and we found some shade against a big rock while watching for deer across a canyon.  Because of the heat we carried one gallon canteens.

I was not surprised when Mike reached for his canteen around 2:30 for a drink.  But I was surprised when he pulled a small pouch out of his pocket and brought out about two feet of leader with a fly on it.  He removed the cap off the canteen and dropped the fly in.  Within a short time he had a nice limit of Eastern Brook.  We fried them on the hot rocks for lunch and then continued with our hunt.

I am sure Mike is teaching all his tricks to his first grandson now days.
