Please help me ID a rifle
« on: April 17, 2003, 01:37:31 AM »
Thanks folks,

I'm working here from memory so bear with me. I was a the local and saw on the back wall what looked like a m1 carbine. It was short with a band front sight ??? and I think it was a springfield ??? ,it was chambered in 22 lr. Does this sound right??

Did someone make a semi auto 22 that looks like a m1 carbine??? It had a good price on it I should have looked better, but had no cashola and I am a very weak man.

thanks,

norville

Yep Erma Made a 22 M1 carbine copy introduced in 1966 now discontinued
another varient with a unslotted stock was introduced in 1970 now discontinued. Marlin made a Model 989m2 that looked something like a M1 carbine had a band front sight and handgard it was made to resemble the carbine but the buttstock was a bit differnt looking from a M1 but the forarm and handgard gave it the M1 Look. made 66 to 79. These are the only examples I could find but there may be more. Other companies made M1 Copies like Iver Johnson but they were the 30 cal ones. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I have no idea on the Erma's yet they are a well known german co. and some of the rifles they made are in a collector status I think the M1 version is one of them I had heard that while investigating the Henry. Ithica/ Erma 22 lever action gun to see if they were the same model and they were. I would think the Marlin would be a good 22 as many semi auto marlins are sold and they have been making them for a long time. Jim
