(While you all were either waiting for GBO to fire back up or were re-lighting the furnace there, Darlene & I took a side trip to Athens, Georgia for a few pictures.)

You remembered :grin:  Thanks for posting. That would be kind of a unique model. Especially if it was fireable. Was that a six pounder? Did you get a picture of the cascadable by chance?

6 pounder -- hmmm --  about 3.2" bore.

But for the cascabels - that was a surprise that there were two:

I thought it interesting to see the two lathe center holes, one in each cascabel.

I would think then that there was a functional use - like aligning some tooling to the axis of the bore.

Been there! Seen that! Didn't get the tee shirt though. We saw the double barrel cannon when my son was living in Athens (UGA grad student). The cannon was another one of those "looks good in theory" things, sure left an interesting artifact though.

The barrel style looks like a 6 pounder is what I ment to say. I have plans for a six pounder and I could use them for the barrel profile. 3.2" would make it a 10 or 12 pounder wouldnt it? The double cascadables is unique. I might have to mess with this untill I get all the stuff for the King Howitzer.

Gino -  Post some pictures from your area!  Surely there are some cannons and mortars in the Land of Lincoln!


Sorry, I'm probably the only person in the known universe without a digital camera! Yes, we do have some cannons/mortars in town. Several cannon at Soldier's Hill in Springdale Cem., at least one cannon at the lagoon in Glenoak Park and a mortar at the GAR Hall if the hall hasn't been torn down (haven't been around there in a years).
