Have anybody any experience with this caliber in Contender (.308 barrel)?
Accuracy with lightweight .308 bullets?

Try 30 Carbine

Hey,

I got a custom shop Encore barrel in 30 carbine.  It's over twice the power of the 32 H&R Mag, yet still a pussycat.  I loaded it up (carefully) way past the loading manuals limits and had absolutely no pressure problems.  Ran out of case before I got into any pressure issues.  Moreover, the Speer #1835 (110 grain) HP bullet expands perfecty at the velocities generated.

Add to that the super cheap cost of surplus ammo & brass, and I'd argue it's the better choice.  Just my $.02.

Jari

I have a 10" bull barrel in 32 H&R.  I haven't tried any of the light weight .308 bullets as I use what I load for my Ruger SS .32.  Mostly with 90 gr cast or 118 gr cast at 1050 fps or so.  Extremely accurate.  10.5 gr H110 with the GC'd 118 bullet is "smokin" as is the same load with Hornady 85 gr XTP bullets. No pressure signs in the TC but I consider them max for the Ruger.  I believe Sierra makes an 80 or 85 gr .308 bullet for the .30 Mauser and Luger, have thought about trying them but doubt they'd do any better than the Hornady.  I have'nt given much thought to the 100/110 gr jacketed bullets in the H&R but the Speer or Hornady HJs would be worth a look as would the Speer 110 HP.  So much to shoot....so little time.
