The octagone barrel is still in progress. Shopping for a new Sightron 6x24 with a dot reticle scope and bases. So far things look noy too bad.

Fred,

You sure do some damn nice work.

I'm still jealous of the octogon barrel from the first time your posted pics of it.  I'd give body parts to have an 8 sided barrel..

Anyone need a kidney, lung, or brain?  Mine are for sale..  lol

Dear Fred:
Please tell me, did you use new stocks, or did you rework the factory wood?
The curve from the trigger guard to the grip cap looks so much more ...comfortable! Gee, what can I say? When it's good, it's good all over!                                         Woodbutcher

The 6mm's are better then quarter bores any way. Glad you are rectifying your thoughts. :-D  :-D  :-D
Seriously, I can't remember the 6x47 parent case, but the 250 Copperhead is based on the 223 IIRC and it makes a real nice light gun to the 87gr bullet weight.
What twist did you settle on for the 6by?
You really dress up the old Handi with the stock work, etc. :D

No I have not rectified my thoughts on 6mm's. A 6mm's are pretty good varmint calibers with small charges, like 6ppc, 6BR, 6x47(222Rem Mag case) I am using a 1-12" twist. Bullet weights from 55-70 gr max.

I had six of big 6mm's and gave up on them. They are very poor deer cartridges.  But my 6ppc is a different story not for deer though.

The two 223 Handi's I had, I thought one of them was usable for a light varminter, because  the cartridge is inherently very accurate. But neither one did  qualify for a varmint rifle as far as accuracy was concerned.

That is why the 223 became a 6x47 with a custom bore. The other one became the 257 Roberts. I am not tickled with H&R barrel quality. The 25-06 I had was no screeming heck either but not too bad.

Here is a look at what the stock looked like before the factory stock reshape.

Fred, they look wonderful, and I agree about the octagon barrels, they are beautiful all by themselves. All I can say is you are both an artist and a craftsman, congratulations....<><....

Dear Fred:
Yes, it looks like you redid the curve of the pistol grip a little, ever so nicely, along with the rest. I notice because the stock grip, on my Handi seems to...crowd my hand, and a change would be more comfortable.
The work in your pictures is an inspiration! Thank you! Woodbutcher

Thanks to all of you for the compliments.

I do like good loking rifles. But if they are not accurate then they will not find berth in my stall. Perhaps I am thought too critical about accuracy.
But I don't think I am alone with that idea.

There are a lot of small things that makes a Handi rifle shoot well. I have spelled them out on my web site as best I can, and found them to work well. Whether anybody reads my pages is something I don't know since I practically get no feed back. But that is ok by me.

But one single solitary item that will or will not make a Handi shoot is the barrel bore. To investigate the bore should be of primary importance.
