looking for 45/70 load data in an encore. thinks for the help.

The Encore will take any published load you want. Plenty strong for #1 loads. KN

I have loaded a lot in the Ruger #1 range with no problem. But I think I was the one who got the worst of it. Be ready for a kicker unless you have a Simms pad or a mercury recoil suppressor in the stock.

Thinks guys i have the kat. barrel with ported barrel--recoil with factory ammo was like a .223 or less(but really loud)-max. loads should not harm my shoulder--again ty for the info--45/70 ruger #1 loads. :-D

I talked with t/c gun smith the other day about this question.
He tld me on the record T/C will say it will take the loads for the old trap door rifles very fine, He told me that HE will say that the encore will be ok with the 1895 loads if you keep them on the lighter side, He did flat out tell me to say from ruger #1 loads.

Hunter......I have a Katy ported 45/70. I tried 4 or 5 of the IMR powders that were recommended. I also used 300, 350, and 405 grain Jacketed bullets. After several hundred rounds shot at 100 yds bench, best load was 47 grains RE7, 350 gr Hornady JFN, CCI 200 primers. This load should be about 1900 fps, and will kill most anything you care to shoot. I know for a fact it will blow through a 200 pound whitetail at 100 yards. Will be about 1.5 MOA at 100 yds in my Encore Katy barrel. Barrel may shoot better, but my eyes and steady hands are about gone. The encore barrel will take any load that the Ruger does. Anything above 50 grains of RE7, and the upper loads from IMR and Hodgen will hurt. Start low, work up, and when it starts hurting, quit, unless you have already quit because of a good MOA or bullets are sailing.

Thanks to all of you--1895 and ruger#1 loadslook colse at max levels--I will start low in the ruger#1 loads and work up carefully.
