...Any horror stories..?
« on: December 12, 2005, 12:29:13 PM »
Has anyone heard any of the outrageous killings and horror stories that some folks predicted would happen...once big game rifle season was introduced in the southern tier ?

Here where I live, there was a situation where there was some illegal hunting and shooting....but that was a few miles north of here, in the "shotguns only" area...and the shooting was done with shotguns....

The two accidents in the southern tier were both with shotguns.  A father grazed his son in the noggin and another guy managed to shoot himself in the leg.

The world continues to turn, deer are still shot at close quarters and a hunter still doesn't look anything like a whitetail

There were no doe permits issued in Chenango county. Thank you, God, it kept the "brown and down" city hunters away. Very few shots heard after opening day. They must have gone someplace more accommadating to their hunting style. But it is kind of sad that the only way the DNC can keep folks from shooting each other is by not issueing doe permits.

In Dutchees County, a 22 year old was shot and killed by one of his hunting buddies last Saturday - (shotgun area).

I hunted in the "rifle area" on opening day and it was pretty quiet compared to the typical opening day for gun season. I saw a group of guys on the side of the road at lunch time and out of 8 guys -only 2 had rifles. A freind who hunted there all week said that - "when the weather got bad, there was alot of guys cruising around all the back roads" Our property is on a very isolated dirt road and an hour before dark I  could 'nt beleive the traffic that was coming through. In our group(3 people) I think it made us sit more and do less moving around. No horror stories here.

I hunted in Allegany County and there were no issues with the rifle hunting...There were DMP's issued in that region but I did not witness any careless activity.  Looks like all the rifle hunting naysayers need to find some other soap box to hop up on as all their predictions of doom and gloom have not come to fruition.  Oh well...I'm sure that something else will pop up for them to focus their efforts on.

Yup !...If someone wants to be a dork...he can hurt or kill someone with a shotgun just as well as he can with a rifle...
