Win 1300 smoothbore and slugs. Need help.
« on: January 16, 2006, 07:05:20 AM »
Bought a slightly used Win 1300 20 guage. It has a smoothbore barrel with a raised rib and bead. Came with 3 choke tubes. It shoots shot much better than my NEF Pardner and H-R 088. However when it comes to shooting foster type slugs the accuracy is foul. My smoothbore NEF shoots slugs WWAAAAAYYYY better at 50 yards then this. I tried the improved cylinder choke that came with the Win but it seemed to be slightly out of round. Maybe that contributed to the shots hitting to the extreme left and with no consistency at all. The modified choke was only slightly better. I really want to cut my collection down to only a few guns. That means one shotgun not 3. I only use a 20 guage so I can sell the 12. That leaves 2 20 guages. I would prefer to keep the Win and sell the NEF. Do I really need to buy a rifled barrel? I see they (Win) sell a iron sighted smooth slug barrel. Just don't need sabot type slugs. My shots are at 50-65 yards of less. So no need for the expense. Do I try a new improved cylinder choke or one of those rifled chokes? Need some ideas here guys.
