30 WSSM ?
« on: July 29, 2005, 06:21:37 AM »
Ok guys,

Last weekend, A buddy of mine asked if I wanted to shoot a bench gun that he'd been messing with. I asked what it was and he handed me this short, small based 30 cal round. He told me that is was a 30BR.
He asked what I'd been shooting and I handed him one of the shells from my 243WSSM. He got this kinda funny look on his face while looking from to the other and we got to talking about the possibilities of blowing out the neck to 30.

Feasible? I looked thru the posts here and didn't find any references to anything like this.

Just a thought to ponder.

Sure, it'd work fine. Midway even has the reamers, PN #280-149. What you'd end up with would have the performance of a .308, wouldn't feed for beans through anythong but an action designed specifically for a WSSM case, and you'd either have to make reloading dies or pay somebody a lot of money for them. It probably would make a decent cast bullet benchrest gun, but so does a 30 BR. And there is the lack of quality brass available for it. But yeah, it could be done.

If you draw up the design, the die set will be about 120.00.

If you have a WSSM and want to make it a real gun that hits harder than your little sister try this. I took mine 223 WSSM and added an 8mm barrel, reamed it with an 8mm-300 (or you can use a 325 wsm reamer) reamed it to the same length as the WSSM case. Necked up my brass, turned my necks (I used the 8mm-300 reamer, it has a tighter neck) and what do i have..... a 325 CORBIN (named after my son)
My test loads were 4350 and 170 gr round nose hornady interbonds
2450 ft per sec and 3/4" groups at 100 yards. I ran out of case for the powder so now I’m trying 3031. No sings of pressure using the 4350.
shooting a Winchester 70 with a 18 1/2" shilen barrel
Reloading dies are just cut 325 WSM dies.
