I've bought three new Handi Rifles in the past year and love them all. I reload for all three and use them mostly for coyote and wolf hunting. I'm by no means the world's best bench shooter however, they all shoot sub 1" groups and I'm pleased with that. However, after browsing these forums I've learned a lot of people polish bores, add rubber washers etc, etc. Should I be fooling with my Handis or just keep on shootin' ??
Also all three of mine are marked NEF HANDI RIFLE on them and are laminated stocks...two with auto ejectors and one without.
A buddy ordered what we thought was the same rifle as mine...SB2-243 when his arrived it had a plain wood stock w/o auto eject.
What's with the variances? Are mine what they call Cinnamon Laminate? And if so why is there no cut ckeckering as advertised?
I like them both just would like to clear things up before I oder the next one!

Welcome aboard!! :D  NEF/H&R is switching over to all extractors instead of the ejectors to eliminate sticking brass, you could get either since there is no distinct cut off for the ejectors.

Wood stocks come in 2 versions on Handis, some of them are solid, some are laminated, none are checkered. The resin laminated stocks(Cinnamon, camo and other colors) of the Ultras come checkered, although uncheckered stocks are available when purchased direct from them as accessories.

If your Handis are shooting good, don't mess with em, if they ain't broke, don't fix em!! Best advice is to shoot first, then fix if they don't shoot to your satisfaction after a reasonable break in. Read all the stickys, that's what they're there for. :wink:

No, NEF doesn't make(label) any Ultras, yours are all laminated "pallet" hardwood as we call them. NEF makes Handirifles, H&R makes the Ultras and they will be marked as such. The rifle in the top pic has a laminated "pallet wood" stock, the bottom pic shows resin laminated Ultra stock...Notice the camo laminated stock has no checkering, it was purchased as an accessory.

Quickdtoo, what's the pedigree of that manlicher rifle in the top photo? Is that an old Topper, or maybe just an old Topper forend? How 'bout caliber, peep, etc?

Hammerspur and Mountainboy, I am sure Quick must be tied up since he is usually right on top of questions with the answers. The Mannlicher forearm in the photo most likely is still available from H&R. They found a bunch last year hidden away somewhere in the factory and many of us here, myself included, bought them. The last I heard they may still have a few available. I have had mine on my 45-70, 30-30, .357 Mag and 12 gauge barrels. They are just a replacement forearm and go on simply. I believe the rear sight pictured is the same one I have on one of my Handi's, a Williams WGRS peep. With just a few bucks and a very little work you each could have a matching gun. Any questions just ask, someone here will come up with the answer!! Good Luck....<><.... :grin:

:-) Quick, I have a Topper 30-30 with the fluted barrel chamber and frame I'd like to re-do someday in a similar fashion. What a trim little carbine it is, like carrying a kids .22. I'd also like to do up a .357 Max to match, making a nice pair of stalkers.

That's IF I ever get around to finishing up all the OTHER H&R projects at some stage of completion that are patiently waiting attention. :roll:

Sorry to be answering a question directed to another member: But Hammerspur might be refering to the Topper models that had a "flute" milled on the chamber area of the barrel and on the receiver to lighten the rifle. I have the Model 158 (in 30-30 of course) which has the flutes and a thin profiled barrel. It makes for the lightest carring H&Rs ever made. The lines are just pleasing, I feel.

That's the one MT, it's the ''HANDI-EST'' ever to come from H&R, IMO.

 Quick,  if you have a copy of "MODERN GUNS- Identification & Value" by Russel and Steve Quertermous available check out the H&R's in the rifles section, and these models are pictured, along with the mannlicher forend model and the ''Mustang'', which sported a really nice schnabel.
