20 GAUGE SLUG ACCURACY
« on: January 03, 2006, 01:09:06 PM »
Folks,
I am thinking about a 20 gauge slug barrel for my Encore. I have an 870 witha rifled barrel , but I would like to try to ease up on the shoulder & go to the 20. Has anyone done any real range work, accuray wise at 50 & 100 yards with the Encore in the 20 ?
I guess you really need to shoot 3" slugs in it because the chamber is 3" & you wuld have a 1/2 " jump to the rifling with a 2 3/4 shell. I've got a couple of fields here in NJ where we have 200 yard shots. NO I don't want to shoot 200 yards!!! But I would like to go to 125 or so , if ALL things were right & the accuracy is there.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Do a search on Encore 20 gauge slug barrels.  I have one, like it a lot and have written about it here.

Good question and good info Scienceguy. I bought my Encore as a stainless 209 x 50 ml with the stainless frame in walnut. I added a factory 24" blued .260 barrel that is sub moa with reloads. I to am considering the 20 rifled barrel. About how much are they and what base / ring setup?

My only (slight} discomfot with the barrels is that the Weaver base on the ml & the Leupold base on the .260 have slight gap between the very front of the base and the barrel.
