2 or 3 Die Sets
« on: March 05, 2006, 07:06:28 AM »
Hello all,

I am new to reloading and I recieved an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme master loading kit.  I am in the process of deciding what dies to use for my 270 Encore.  This will be the first experience I have reloading.

I have decided to use Redding dies, and here is what I have found:  The first set is a 2 die set that includes a full lenght sizing die and a bullet seating die:

The second set I found is a 3 die set that includes a full length sizing die, a neck sizing die and a bullet seating die:

Here's my questions:  Is there any advantage to using the 3 die set over the 2 die set in the Encore I will be loading these bullets for?  Also, which set would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance for all of your responses.  This site is a wealth on information.

I prefere the 3 die sets..even though they are more expensive..I can set up my full lenght one to do just what it's intended for..and use the neck size die for what it's designed for.Yes..you can neck size with a full lenght die..but my preference is to do it in a neck size only die..this way I'm not sizing anything but the neck...Redding makes some fine equipment..and with proper care either set should last you a lifetime...

I buy the 3 die sets.  I neck size for my Contender and Encore and it is cheaper to buy the deluxe set than to buy the 2 die set and then buy a necksizer.  Some people will use a full length sizing die to neck size, but I like the individual dies and keep each one set up for what i use them for.

I like having a neck size die. It gives me more accuracy in my Contender and limits neck trimming. I like the Lee collet neck size die, but I am sure that the Redding die is fine.
