Thanks,

that Kimber custom TLE is a nice looking 1911, I was looking at those on Kimber's site a while ago.

You know, I almost hate to even give an opinon on what is the "best" leather for carry. There are just so many types and styles, and so many really good holster makers, it's mind boggling.  Not to mention it depends on how you dress too, and what the weather is, and what feels good on you, because all people are built different.
I experimented so much over the years with leather holters, I have a huge wooden crate full of them.
I'm not sure how you like to carry either. Strong side, inside the pants, outside, small of the back. ect...
Maybe if you mentioned how you like to carry it, or where on your body you like to carry it, it would slim it down to where I could comment on my experiences.
You might wind up with a whole bunch of holsters someday like me!
Which isn't all bad either.

I would like to carry on the outside, in the small of my back.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Even if it is some of the better manufactures.

Thanks,
Larry

I have a Galco small of the back holster that is pretty comfy, easy to get at the gun and is all high quality leather.
Mernickle makes some real nice leather also, if you want one custom or personalized in some way.

I bet if you did a search on SOB holsters you'd find a ton of them.

I have a few Galco holsters, and I found out when buying those new they need to be broke in. Like if you try to stuff your gun a brand new Galco, you might think your gun doesn't fit, but reading the directions Galco sends, it's like breaking in a new ball glove. You massage the holster all over, then after a while your gun will go in all the way, then you leave it in there for awhile, then pull it out and massage it again...ect...after a time your gun will fit in the leather holster just like a baseball in a glove.

I like SOB holsters at times, but find they bug me if I have to do much sitting in hard chairs...other than that, I think they come in pretty handy for goffing around for a day with a vest, or a shirt untucked. Doesn't take much to cover them up because the gun is riding in more of a horizontal position.
But lately, the last few months, I've been using IWB holsters with a vest, or loose sweatshirt or whatever. I'm really getting used to the IWB thing.

You'll probably find a whole bunch of places out there that make SOB holsters if you do a search on them. They only SOB I have is Galco, and I've been happy with the quality of it, it seems to be well made with a tension adjust in it to grab your gun tighter if you like.

Happy shopping!
