Based on your useage, the 9mm wins hands down! Ammo cost for the 9mm is on average is 40-50% cheaper than the .40 in my area. The 9 will do whatever you need a pistol to do.

+1 for the 9mm for the same reasons.  I would look at the Taurus PT-92 for a less expensive, reliable and versatile gun.

:D 257 Roberts.  Look back to APril 11, 1986 and the shoot out that occured between two bank robbers and eight FBI agents near Miami, FL.  Even though one of the bank robbers had been hit eighteen times in the heart/lung area, he continued to fight for almost an hour, keeping the FBI agents pinned down with a .357 pistol and Ruger Mini-14, killing two of the agents.

The FBI agents were armed with .38 and 9mm caliber firearms.  This prompted the FBI and many other LEO to go to the more powerful .40.  It has again been proven in Iraq, the 9mm in not effective in stopping a man, the military is looking at the .40, but is currently pulling the old .45 out of moth balls and putting her back in service.

I packed a 9mm for more years than I care to remember, but today I am convinced, if my life is on the line, I want a .40 and prefer that to be a Sig. The 9mm may be OK in a pinch, but I would go for the .40 to ensure the safety of myself and family.

:cb2: 40-50%? Gee Savage, you guys are really getting ripped off. Here the popularity of the .40 has brought the price down to about the same as the 9mm. It's actually cheaper than .38s. Of course, there's always the super cheap Russian stuff . . .

I suggest, if you are going to use the gun for concealed carry, to go with the .40. There's a reason why all the law enforcement offices are switching from 9mm to .40. It's a better stopper. Will the 9mm work? Of course it will. It's been doing so for years. However, the .40's just a little better. It's like hunting with a .357. Can you do it? Will it work? Sure, but I'd rather carry a .41 or a .44 when hunting, and do the job right.

Of course, you should really be thinkin' .45 ACP . . .

Have to agree with you on that one Griz. If you need something bigger than the 9mm, it might as well be a .45!
Blazer aluminum case is going for $3.87 a box here at Academy. The .40 is going for $3.00 more. For "ihutbucks" stated uses, the 9mm just makes more sense. I don't own any .40s, all my pistols are in .380/9mm/10mm/.45s, other than rimfires, of course. Whoa--------wail a minute, I do own a .40 barrel for my 10mm that I forgot about-------. Don't think I've ever fired it.
Cheers,
Savage

I am a big 45ACP fan and carry ar 45 ACP for my CCW, but I also have a 9mm and it is a blast to shoot. But between your choices I would get the 9mm.   :D

Rick,
Excellent move!! You always NEED another gun, right?  I predict that in a few years you'll join the ranks  of those of us who would have to do an inventory to tell you how many handguns we own at any given moment!

Now all you need to git is a Sig 220 in 45ACP and you will be set.  :D  :-D
