New BP Equivalents
« on: December 08, 2005, 05:56:51 PM »
BP or at least the real thing is becoming or has been a pain in the butt to buy.  You have to order and from most places, a case at a time.

I have a three rifles, a 45/120, 50-100 and a 45-90.  What are you all using out their in lieu of BP.  I have heard about the new Goex product but havn't read any reviews on how it has worked out on the range.

I have not reloaded for my BP cartridge rifles for around three years and am feeling the itch to make lots of smoke and big holes.  Any feedback you guys can give me will be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Dana

APP seams to be the best and cleanest of the bunch, but a little slower volume for volume with other powders. I would rather use smokeless if I couldn`t use Black, but since you want an alternative to Black, Pyrodex is the next best thing in my opinion and it smokes just about as much, ands as we know, the smoke is half the fun!! Goex makes pre-loaded blackpowder rifle shells, but I just can`t find them, I want to try them in my BC .45/70  If you are reloading, I would use Pyrodex for the power and smoke factor and even smells similar to Black. Slayer: what is APP?

Buffalo Arms carries the GOEX ammunition:

FAX (208) 265-2096
Store Hours 8 am to 4:30 pm Pacific Time

I believe that Powder Inc, a GOEX distributors has the GOEX-loaded cartridges.

Powder, Inc.

IIRC, correctly, both Powder Inc & GRAFS will ship BP in lots of less than 25#, but you still pay the HAZMAT fee.

Pyrodex is harder to ignite than BP, & still requires a meticulous cleaning procedure.
