Small Traps

This is just for fun, what do you fellows think is about the biggest critter you'd use a 1.75 victor to catch?  Now I mean catch and hold and the trap is fully modified.  Joe will post the pic of my son's answer in the Jan Photo contest.  

I'm kinda busy lately, two lines goin keeps me out of trouble.  Hope all have had a great holiday season and are puttin up a bunch of fur.  Congrates to the photo winners.

I caught a 235 lb critter on my weekoff this last fall.  The trap held and it took my foot and other hand to unset it.  Man did that smart.!!!  I had caught a jackrabbit and didn't apparently quite get all the mud cleaned out of the night latch.  I had reset the trap and covered it.    I was placing a small piece of grass for a guide and dropped it.  My rubber gloves were stiff from getting wet the night before in a water set and forze a tiny bit as I left them in the back of the truck over night.  Got a little to aggressive trying to flick the grass off the dirt above the pan and snap.  Was a solid two finger hold and it didn't help that my fingers were cold from the froze gloves.  Learned my lesson and used different gloves for dryland and water sets plus double check to make sure the trap is cleaned up good before resetting!!   :oops:   :roll:

1.75 is the only trap is use on coyote.  All the catches have been nice high paw catches too.  I perfer them over any canine trap.  This year i'm experimenting with off set jaws to see the difference in catch.

Not sure if this qualifies for a big catch or not, but here is my experience:
I caught the tire of a four-wheel drive in a #2 longspring myself. Well, I almost did anyway. Of course, the truck won that matchup. The truck's driver worked the set after he/she decided that they couldn't pull my earth anchored-trap out of the ground, so he/she just backed over the trap several times (according to the track patterns and shoe prints).
I wished I would have "forgotten" a handful of fence staples or roofing nails at that set when I was making it, then maybe we both could have enjoyed a little of the expense of this person's antics. The trap springs and the earth anchor are all that are saveable for me out of this piece of equipment.
Thank you, whoever you were. Nice to know we can all enjoy the outdoors together these days in a peaceful coexistence.
