barrel lug; weld, dovetail and solder?
« on: January 15, 2006, 07:10:22 AM »
I have a Buffalo Classic; fancy handi rifle, and I want to change the forearm attachment method.  It would involve removing the screw stud and reattaching a different metal block.  I was needing to know if it would probably be better to tig or mig this on or to cut a wide dovetail and solder it for a stronger bond?

The lug is responsible for put pressure on the hinge joint to create a solid joint.  I don't believe it take any of the real pressure upon firing, but I feel it needs to be pretty solid?

Any information or knowledge in this area?

The lug holds on the forearm and the forearm retains the barrel when it is opened.. otherwise there is little stress. A good sweated joint would be fine. One could mig (or tig) weld it if you were so inclined.. I would most likely sweat it in place..
