Question about a Marlin 30-30 "model 30AW"
« on: February 24, 2006, 08:18:40 AM »
First off, what is the difference between a 30AW model and a Model 336?
Second, is there a way for me to tell how old a model 30AW rifle in .30-30 is???  Can I check a website and type in the serial Number or something?  I checked Marlin's site and didn't see anything like that...

thanks for the help... Chief

From what I can remember, the 30aw stock is made of birch a differant stle of open sights. The 336 is walnut stock some come with recoil pad and better open sights. I hope this helps

Question about a Marlin 30-30 "model 3

I asked this same question a year or so ago and was told the 30AW was a cheaper model made for Wal Mart.  I don't know if it is cheaper wood, but if it is the stain job is fantastic on mine.  It looks as good as any 336 and better than many.  I have also seen 30AWs sell for more than 336s that seem to be in the same condition, so I don't know.  Mine is smooth and since I did a trigger job on it it consistently shoots 1 inch groups at 100 yards.  I wouldn't trade mine for anything.  Good luck with yours.
