Videos Of Bear Charges
« on: April 21, 2003, 03:48:41 PM »
Is anyone aware of videos that contain footage of actual bear charges (black, polar, and brown)? I understand that Fred Bear had at least one such video several years ago of a polar bear charge. He shot the bear with his bow, and the bruin charged and had to be taken out with a back up rifle.  Any information will be appreciated.

Appreciation,

I saw one so called bear charge video'd by a guide on Vancouver Island. The Black Bear was shot at fairly close range and was up hill from the hunter. The bear after being hit basically ran in the direction of least resistance which was in the direction of the hunter. Scarey yes but hardly a charge.

I'm trying to remember the name of the film, but I remember seeing a video a sow black bear with two cubs (might have been three) being video-taped by two hunters. The sow caught wind of them, turned and came at them at full sprint. They had to shoot a round or two infront of her when she was getting REALLY close. I'm suprised she didn't take a round to the chest or face when they were shooting infront of her, because you could see the rocks and dirt hitting this bear.

RIFLE MAN,

You might do a search of the net for Fred Bear videos or contact Bear Archery and see if they have the one you are looking for.  I saw the one you are talking about.  Something you won't forget.  Also check Calela's for action videos for animal charges.  Lawdog

There is a video called "Masters of the Black Bear" reviewed by
www.bear-hunting.com
In it is a charge of a blackie that the guide had to shoot with his bow. The picture is somewhat blurry, but the sounds of huffing coming out of a $$ed bear are neat! I just went to the site and noticed that it was not available for sale by them, though they might be able to advise.
best,
