Rod eyelet repair
« on: April 23, 2006, 08:33:49 AM »
I have an older spinning rod that I accidentely broke the eyelet (which is closest to the spinning reel) off. Now, the round "part" has come off of the metal frame that attaches to the rod.

So, I have been searching for a new eyelet, but so far have only found complete repair kits for $60, or just rod tip eyelets. I really don't want to spend $60 on an eyelet.

It appears theses eyelets are silver soldered together. The piece's I have are repairable so that route is an option, but if some on-line store just has an eyelet I can  buy for a reasonable price, I would prefer going that route.

I mean, to buy a repair kit for $60....I'll just keep goin and buy a new rod.

So...does anyone know of a place where I can just buy an eyelet...cheap??or should I say reasonable? I don't have any old rods to swipe one from....tossed those as they were crushed.

Thanks

Dave.

If you have a fishing shop anywhere close... quite a few places will carry eyelets.  I get the eyelet, wrap dental floss around it, the flat really strong type, tie it, and finish it off with some fly-tying head cement.  Works really well, and cheaper than a whole repair kit.
