Are Winchester 94s made in Japan? Or are they assembled in USA of largely imported parts? I like to try and buy things that are actually made here if I can. And I really don't like to buy guns that are made in countries that don't allow its own citizens to bear arms. What's the old saying - the difference between citizens and servents is the right to bear arms.

Some are made my Miroku and are of very good quality. One can own guns in Japan. Long guns being easier to obtain and handguns being virtually impossible. The gov't simply makes it a real PITA to obtain one and then to keep it. Costs big bucks, too. :?

Mine is a crossblock safety era gun and it says Made in USA on it, nothing about japan or anything.

Model 1894's, 70's and AR's are US made, for the moment. Since the early 1980's, the Models 53, 65, 71, 86, 92 and 95 (as well as Model 12 and 42 shotguns) were all made by Miroku. The even older Model 101 o/u shotgun was made by Kodensha in Japan.

Miroku in Japan has made all the Browning 1885 single-shots, Hi Wall and Lo Wall, for years ... as well as some shotguns I think; and, with the Browning/Winchester "merger", the so-called "Winchester" versions are still made by Miroku. From a political, "buy American" perspective, it's problematical; but Miroku makes a good quality product.

The limited edition Winchester 1886's that come out every now and then are also made in Japan by Miroku.

Press releases state that there are no plans to relocate production of the 1894, model 70 or 1300. The currently produced Japanese leverguns will continure on a 'limited issue' basis and the X series shotguns as is.

The Winchesters that are made in Japan are mostly collectors models or high-end sporters. They cost two to three times as much as the Model 94.
I seriously doubt that there is any market for an 1894 in the $1000.00 or higher price range. If you disagree, there are 4 or 5 million older 1894 Winchesters available in the collectable category.

There was a run or two of Winchester/Miroku M92's made in Japan. The quality of the one I've seen in person is very good. They show up online for about $800 to $1000, depending. The Henry's, and good single shot levers, can cost at least as much. And I saw a worn 1895 in 30-40 Krag for $1500 recently.......
