The Encore and rimfire
« on: January 26, 2006, 02:33:04 PM »
I am interested in shooting 22LR and 22MAG from an Encore. I have seen rimfire adapters for the Encore, but it seems that you need to do some modifications that might void the warranty. Are there any othe options?
Thanks & God Bless,
Chuck

Chuck,
you have a few options all are from custom barrel makers.

1) is a barrel from OTT, they use an off set barrel so you will not have to do anything to the frame.  they will make you any rimfire barrel you want.

2) is from bullberry barrel works. with this you will need to replace the firring pin / breech plug  with a custom one. this is nothing hard and only takes about 3 minutes ( you should remove the breech plug every so often for cleaning anyway) then order your rimfire barrel from bullberry.

3) I think at least one time Midway usa had the rimfire adaptors listed and I am sure SSK will be happy to make you a rimfire barrel

You can replace the breech plug at will with no modification to the frame. I doubt it will void the warranty

I elected to go with a rim fire breech plug for my .17 hmr. No big deal to change at all. I think mine came from E A Brown. I elected to purchase the brech plug conversion over an offset to increase my options on future rim fire barrels.

I woud add, if you have no intentions of purchasing more than one rim fire barrels that an off set barrel is quicker to change over. I have removed my .17 and installed my ML barrel only to find my 209 was not struck when I toucehd it off. As soon as I heard a click I remarked how dumb I was. Back off with the barrel so I could replace the rim fire plug with the center fire plug. Glad I was at the bench and not in the field with a scope full of buck. I would still be hurt!!!!

I am sure no one else could be dumb enough to forget to change the plug when they changed the barrel.

Have fun,
Slave

That is absolutely something that I would do. Except I would have had a scope full of buck. I will look into the offset barrels.
Thanks & God Bless,
