Ride With The Devil
« on: February 04, 2007, 03:47:45 PM »
Today I watched an excellent Civil War movie titled, "Ride With The Devil."  It portrays the bloody guerilla fighting in Missouri that was commonly called "bushwacking."  I really enjoyed the movie as the clothing, arms, and vocabulary were extremely authentic for the time period.  Best of all, the movie was filmed here in Missouri.

For those who are interested in what is sometimes refered to in Missouri as The Thirty Year War, check out the book, "Bushwackers Along The Border."  It is a fascinating read.

I did not have the title of that book quite right.  Here is the correct info:

Bushwackers of the Border: The Civil War Period in Western Missouri. Nevada, MO: Vernon County Historical Society, 1980. 62p. Brophy, Patrick.

that was a great film.  Director was Ang Lee if I remember right.  Sympathetic to the South.  Some people complained about the woman lead, saying she was too immodest, etc., but I think people were people then, just like now. I'd very much recommend that film.
