Best scope for $100 or under.
« on: February 27, 2003, 05:30:10 AM »
I am looking for a scope for my new .17HMR and can't spend more than a $100. I am looking for something like a 3-9 or 4-12. The gun is going to be used for target and small game hunting. So far bushnell "sportsman", BSA, and simmons "pro hunter SE" have my attention. Any opinions? Thanks

I would consider the Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40. Great little scope.

I strongly agree.  Although I am not a supporter of scopes under $100, I do recognize that a person does not necessarily need a higher quality, and higher priced scope, on a rifle as light kicking as the one you are using.

For the price, and your purpose, the Trophy would be hard to beat.

I agree with the others. I have one on my Ruger 10/22, can't be beat!

Trophy vs. Banner
« Reply #4 on: March 10, 2003, 03:47:28 PM »
I have both a Trophy 3-9x40 and a Banner 4-12x40AO. To be perfectly
frank, I much prefer the Banner. Perhaps it's just a fluke, but the Banner
is both clearer and has better light gathering qualities.  I do notice pulling
the scope closer on higher magnifications with the Trophy, but that is
negligable with the Banner. Don't get me wrong, the Trophy is really a nice
scope for the money, but ya might do a comparison between the two at
the store before bringing one of them home.

I have a couple of 4.5x14x40 ATV simmons scopes that I bought at walmart. One sets on my 17HMR and I love them. There a little more than $100, about $129. KN

Bushnell makes a 6x-18x that is very cheap. It  is used for a lot of beginner rimfire sillouette shooters.

Wow Chris, that's quite a selection you have there, but which scope would you personally recommend?
