New guy here, .204 ejection problems, brand new?

Hey fellas,

Been awhile since i been here....since back before the forum moved so to speak.

Anyhow, i could't resist the .204 handi rifle and picked one up today. So i bring it home, clean it all up and get it ready to go...and pop one into to see how far it ejects them just to be sure.

As soon as i started feeding a round into it i knew something was wrong because the the ejector was sticking up to high and putting pressure on the round...it has a bunch of up and down movement. I checked my girlfriends youth single shot .243 and it doesn't have nearly the up and down movement...and it chucks shells a good several feet. With the .204 it drags going in, i can hold the ejector down and let a round slide in and then i can close the action and hit the button and the ejector pops out with the casing hooked to it but it doesn't chuck it anywhere, the ejector doesn't even come out of the groove on the shell. I hope i'm describing this okay?

Help?

Or am i straight back to the dealer with this one?

p.s. i was impressed with this one right out of the box, it was snickety slick and the triggers feel much better than the old ones now...i'm kinda sad i have a problem with this one

Although I haven't seen one yet myself, you may have one of the newer extratcors, rather then the ejector of yesteryear. If that is the case it might be working just the way it is ment to.

Oh god i hope not.

I had a system with the ones that chucked shells where i used an elastic around the eye piece on the scope and put a second shell under the elastic and i could shoot, reload, and shoot again almost as quick as a bolt gun. Right hand never moved and the left quickly grabbed the second shell and it only had to move inches to get into the chamber and click, click bang. Was kinda hoping for the same thing...want to use as a coyote calling gun...sometimes a quicky second shot is necessary on a miss or a double etc.

If this is how it is i think i'll be regretting this purchase...and trying to come up with some sort of fix. This can't be right.

 exstractor not ejecters  What you described is the way all
new ones will be. Marv.

Hey BB--welcome to the forum.

I had a Ruger #1 in 270 that had extractor, not ejector.  I found that if the action was opened with the muzzle pointing up, the extracted empty would fall out.

As thishappened I'd pluck another round from the holder on my belt, then tip the muzzle down, drop the live one in, and close the action.

Took much longer to say than to do.

Hope some variation on this technique will work for you--the 204 is too good of a round to let a little thing like the new ejector get in the way of your shooting.

Alrighty then, i guess a sense of relief is felt to know its not a bum gun...but then again...i'm not jumping up and down over this one.

You reloaders had something to do with this....lord tunderin geesuz by laddie! :shock:

Well this is gonna take some gettin used too. Still don't think its the right move, i got pretty quick at gettin the hand in the way at the range to hold the brass out an inch or two. Would rather deal with that and have the ejector for hunting than vice versa but there's way more reloaders now than not i'm thinkin? I don't reload so double bummer here. I guess i can save the brass to sell now. :roll:  :lol:

And no simple conversion back? You can go one way but not the other...crap...what whiz bang figured that one out? :roll:

Okay, i can pull it back out of its box and get it ready to shoot then.

I seen your posts in my searching etc. i will be trying everything i can to get quick on a second shot. I dunno with this gun though...there's quite a bit of tension on the shell, i don't think it'll get past the hump at all. I'd be cool if it would stick out half way on a tip up but i don't think this one will let that happen.

I'll have to use it now and see if i think i can live with it and or modify it better somehow?

Welcome back , One thing you may want to do is polish the chamber real good . I understand what you mean about the ejector being nice for the 2nd shot .

The ejector was changed to an extractor to help with the sticking cases that seem to plage the H&R/NEF rifles .  

I have found that with a good polish job ,if you tip the barrel up the shell will fall clear with out a problem , But yes it is still slower than the ejector .
