Looking for Kansas prairie dogs.
« on: January 21, 2006, 02:09:35 PM »
I would like to find some prairie dogs in Kansas to shoot this spring and summer.  I was in contact with a couple of Chambers of Commerce in western Kansas last year, but wasn't able to make it out.

Any other tips or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Last April I hunted the Cimarron National Grasslands in SW Kansas near Elkhart.  Elkhart's just above the Oklahoma border and about 6 miles from Colorado.  Lots of towns, but most on the small side.  Dogs appear to be hunted hard and are a bit gunshy.  I have very few shots less than 200 yards.  It was fun though.

gar hunter...........You might try between Hugoton and Ulysses. I was up there a couple years ago and there was a good crop of dogs. Sit my table up and shot for three days with out a move. The dog town was about eight miles west of the hiway, from the main road between the two towns i mentioned. The longest shots are about 300 yds. Hope this helps..........Joe...........
