Where do you aim
« on: February 27, 2006, 03:39:27 AM »
So, Where should you aim when hunting hogs? I am going on my first hog hunt this fall. I have a buddy that has hunted many times (he got me hooked). When I told him I was going to use Federal Vital Shok 44 mag 300 gr Hard Cast bullets, he said I should use 240gr stuff. He says that his reason for that is so you don't have to re-sight your gun every season. I asked him if hitting the shoulder with what he was going to use (wal-mart winchester jsp) would pentrate enough to take down the hog. He says you don't shoot for the shoulder as it would ruin a good eating chunk of meat. I was planing on aiming for the front shoulder.

So that begs the question, Where do you aim?

The brain is too small for me to hit (I think).

The heart and lungs (from what I have seen on line) are behind the shoulder.

The spine is pretty small and it drops down and might be hard to hit.

I thought I could take out the shoulders and then finish him off. What do you guys (and gals) think.
