I've tried a few different kinds of muskrat lures and noticed an increase in catches when used right. What are some of your favorite muskrat lures? I've used Dobbins and Carmans.

Lenon's works well, and good standbye for a passing coon. Regardless of lure used, I think it's as important to have visual attractants. I like to rinse off a big glob of roots to bring them in for a closer look. I think the best application for a lure and root type of attractant is an old feedbed, or on a float set. Pockets, in my opinion, don't necessarily produce any better with or without lure. With coon in mind though....it can never hurt.

Ohiotrapper,
Here's a formula I used with very good results if you're interested in trying your own. You can play with it a bit in the off-season to check results. 4oz Propylene Glycol, 1 oz sweetflag Oil, 1oz apple extract, 1oz catnip oil. Let stand a few weeks then add about 15 drops ambergris oil and 10 drops anis. Another ingredient I was experimenting with was bannana oil as it seemed to really pull in the rats but I never really worked with it much as I was at the tail end of commercial lure selling.
Oh, and Mallards right about the visual actractors. Green shoots falling out of a pocket set designed for rats will really pull em in. ALWAYS sweat the details and your catch WILL improve. Good luck!!!

I felt the same way Asa. I was so shocked I shut the Puuter off and went to bed! Got up today and yep it wasn't a pigment of my magination it was for real! :-D

Leeme alone guys. I got out the feather duster while hanging cieling tile in the basement and finaly found my 'puter so I thinks I'll type something!!! Maybe I'll talk to ya in another 6 months! Really though, Joe has been doing a great job, this old fart is really like an old trapper, we don't die... We just... well you know the rest.
